TechDistortion Parallel Posting in Substack
With many of my followers being big supporters of other writers/podcasters through Substack, and TechDistortion being a blog-first platform for my written articles, I thought it was time to give Substack a try myself.
There will be three stages to porting content into Substack:
Import all TechDistortion articles, update and tidy them all (324 in total)
Import TEN articles, update and tidy them too (TBD in total)
Determine if/how to extend to selected Patreon-only posts
Firstly, I’m not replacing Patreon, TechDistortion or the TEN website. I’m giving those that want to support my work an alternative pathway to do so.
In the past I’ve kept my sites and posts simple with no comment functionality, however on Substack I’m intending to open that to an extent to see how it goes.
For now at least, I’m starting with TechDistortion…and whilst I’m at it, there’s a few annoying things about Substack that no-one told me…
When you import an RSS Feed, the publish dates aren’t respected. (I’m currently going through each article one at a time, tidying these up to align with their correct publication date)
When you import an RSS Feed, the images aren’t pulled in.
There is no way to display a table of information in Substack posts.
There is no way to organise/align images in Substack posts.
There’s probably more.
Anyway, for now we begin down this road and see where it goes. I’ve done various trials like this in the past and if it turns out after 12 months or so that there’s no benefit to anyone or interest then I’ll consider closing it down at that time.
We’ll see. Let me know what you think.
